WE BUY SOULS! is a company that buys souls. For more than four years, its hotline has collected thousands of voicemails from strangers.

The work
After last year’s WBS Call Center, which invited visitors to call in and declare what they would sell their souls for, WE BUY SOULS! returns to Miami Beach with its next iteration: The Appraisal Office.
This year, WBS expands its corporate infrastructure into a fully functioning acquisition office, turning the space into an absurdist corporate-spiritual environment where you can receive a live, in-person appraisal of your soul. Surrounded by artwork, sculpture, corporate documents and the visual language of an established institution, the installation continues to blur the boundaries between art, commerce, faith and bureaucracy.
You will be able to book a time slot for an in-person soul appraisal. Scheduling and participation details will be announced.
About WE BUY SOULS!
WBS | The Entity LLC is a psycho-social experiment framed as a corporate soul acquisition firm. Equal parts installation, performance, marketing experiment and dark satire, it unfolds within a bureaucratic universe where souls are appraised and acquired according to legal, spiritual and economic frameworks.
Signs posted across Los Angeles and beyond offer a hotline to buy what is considered most sacred. For more than four years, the number has collected thousands of voicemails, some cynical, some confessional, some heartbreakingly sincere: a living archive of belief, skepticism, humor, pain, hope, loneliness and greed.
About the artist
Rabi (David Emanuel Mordechai Torres, b. 1984) is a first-generation conceptual and multidisciplinary American artist of Puerto Rican and Polish descent from Los Angeles. His work explores belief, identity, public ritual and the psychological impact of corporate and cultural systems. Growing up in Southern California and Iowa as the child of two immigrants, he found comfort in the many sides of American life; contradiction, escapism, duality, absurdism and sociopolitical philosophy run through his work.
His art began with graffiti and skateboarding, and a drive to make work in public space and to capture his world through video and photography. His practice spans installation, painting, sculpture, large-scale public works and long-running participatory experiments. Through WE BUY SOULS! and earlier collaborative work with the collective CYRCLE, he builds environments that merge the language of branding, bureaucracy and myth.
His work is in public and private collections including the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, MOCA Detroit and the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans, and he has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, LA Weekly, KCRW and Hypebeast.
