1223 Potomac Gallery

About the gallery
1223 Potomac Gallery is a working studio and exhibition space on Potomac Street NW in Georgetown, devoted to the art and material culture of protest, civic memory and social change.
Guided by the conviction that art is activism, it presents Washington artists alongside the posters, photographs and objects that record how communities make themselves heard.
Its program draws on the District’s own cultural inheritance, including go-go, the city’s official music, and treats preservation as part of the curator’s responsibility.
In September 2026 the gallery debuted No. 11, 149 Mercer St., a set of four unique window barriers salvaged from SoHo, New York, in 2020.
This December it brings that set to SCOPE Miami Beach with the public debut of a second set, No. 12, 71 Mercer St., and two unique single-panel works.
