Sue Katz

About the artist
Sue Katz is a Boston-born artist who has lived and worked in The Bahamas for over 35 years. Working primarily in analogue collage, she uses vintage and handmade papers, old magazines, books and found imagery to build multi-layered contemporary compositions. Her work explores identity, memory and human connection through a playful engagement with nostalgic imagery, evoking a fleeting era of simplicity with humour, kitsch and irony. Drawing on her own memories of growing up in mid-century America, Katz juxtaposes bold tones and vivid colors that may not belong together, creating mood rather than reproducing an image, with a clear nod to Pop Art. She studied at Syracuse University and the Rhode Island School of Design, earning a BFA in Illustration. Her work is held in the collection of the D’Aguilar Foundation in Nassau, Lynden Pindling International Airport and numerous private collections.
